medium shirts – second batch
all shirts are medium in size except for the white which is a small.
good news is that i sold one more shirt – pics to follow in the next post!
my favourite here is this mustard number – i might keep it for myself. i find subconsciously when given freedom to choose i turn to this colour a lot in design and personal work.
also i am seeing that smaller designs work better than larger prints, and prints on white in person feel and look better than the colored ones.
new designs
this weekend i photographed the first batch of t-shirts with new designs.
gildan shirts, 100% cotton, all size small. the whites feel way less rubbery than darks, the detail is reproduced nicely in both. time will show how they survive washing, sunlight and general wear. care instructions are:
leave for 24 hours before first wash;
wash in cold water, do not bleach, wash separately, inside out;
do not use fabric softener;
dry at normal setting, do not dry clean.
this girl was the very first in the heat press, i was still learning and peeled the freezer paper too fast – it came off with her front right paw(((. she is still very pretty, maybe not for sale, unless someone falls in love with her madly, or as a discount item. pattern based on a Russian folk design.
this one is the first that was sketched, she is very elegant and proud of her stripes. i recently noticed some connotations to the bees, with the striped body + the flower. the flower inspired by Tibetan religious painting.
this is a snow fox girl. she doesn’t look too quiet and peaceful in this size and on contrasting black, but still subtle.
there’s more to come, can’t wait to have daylight to photograph the others!
first sale!
first shirt – feels like art school again
first shirt on a home-made dress form!
here’s how it’s made. ingredients: a t-shirt that you don’t like and never will wear again – 1, a friend – 1, duct tape, scissors.
put the shirt on, and have a friend help you cover it completely in tape. make sure not to wrap too tight – you need to breathe, and it’s quite claustrophobic in there. also make sure boobs stay in place, if you have them that is, – i made this mistake and have to add them later, the form looks like a teenage boy, haha. and maybe a neck will help, too.
cut the shirt open along the spine, get out if it, retape it and stuff it with…something. my something was crumpled up paper. i also added a flat piece of cardboard at the bottom for stability.
so here it is – plain white small ladies shirt, the transfer pretty much covers the whole front. the outline is intricate to cut out, but it’s worth it – not having the halo around the image.
beasts – continued
things are moving along.
i ordered heat transfers from this place. they sent me two sample packs for under $20.
i printed the designs on a non-fuser oil laser printer. the colours were completely messed up – not the way i intended them to be, but i guess the relationship between the colours is the same, so i didn’t stress about it too much.
then i went on to transfer them on t-shirts. all these transfers are made for the industrial heat press with its controlled temperatures and pressure. i will take some pics of the product)))
